First Impressions - A Journey of Expression by Adult Art Class Artists

It has already been a year and a half since I fulfilled my long-time dream of opening ARTROOM101. Over this time, I’ve had the joy of meeting many students through various classes, but the Adult Art Class holds a special place in my heart. These students, who have worked hard in different fields, continue to enrich their lives with passion even after retirement, inspiring me greatly. Gathering each week to capture their life stories on art pieces, they have grown into remarkable artists, and I look forward to seeing their continued beautiful journey as artists.

ARTROOM101

Director, Sul Lee Lee

< Artist Introduction >

Jane An

Painting has always been Jane An’s dream, and now she can fully embrace it. After a busy youth, she is eager to fill her days with art that captures her experiences and emotions. Starry Night reflects the joy of a starlit moment with her husband, Lake Minnewaska embodies the poetic beauty of autumn, and Sailing symbolizes resilience and the hope that happiness lies beyond life’s hardships.

Minako Logan

Minako Logan’s art explores wisdom, resilience, and hidden darkness. Wisdom depicts an elder’s ear with crows, symbolizing knowledge through Norse mythology. Strong-Willed, a self-portrait in a Japanese wedding kimono, uses Hung Liu’s dripping style to capture the ambivalence of joy and loss after her mother’s passing the day after her wedding. Monsters exposes how true monsters often hide in plain sight, inspired by Banksy’s unsettling contrasts. Logan’s work merges symbolism with emotional depth, navigating personal and societal complexities.

Eileen Stauber

Eileen is an aspiring artist who has recently retired and is able to now focus on developing her natural skills.  Eileen is especially interested in experimenting with colors that create vibrance in most of her pieces. She uses art as a way to express her positivism in most aspects of her life and this is typically done through the use of joyful and bright colors.

Janet Lee

Janet Lee embraces the freedom of expression in her art, which has been enriched by exploring various situations and subjects. Through creating detailed and precise works, she has discovered the excitement and depth of different artistic genres. Looking ahead, she is eager to expand her artistic journey by exploring architectural subjects.

Wendy Ward

Wendy has recently rekindled her passion for creating art. Currently, she has focused on charcoal and the freedom that this medium affords.  A nature enthusiast, Wendy hopes to use this style of art to express a feeling of calmness.  The simplicity that the black and white feature of charcoal provides works to help create a sense of soothing and physical wellbeing.  Wendy hopes that her art allows people to see the beauty that surrounds them To quote Cézanne: "Art is a harmony parallel to nature"
