NAMEPA Art Contest

Earlier this year, our community faced a significant challenge when a serious shipping accident occurred involving the Baltimore bridge. This incident highlighted critical issues concerning ship safety and the pressing need for enhanced safety measures. Recognizing the gravity of this situation, we decided to take proactive steps to raise awareness and foster discussions around this topic.

In response to the accident, we encouraged our students to channel their creativity and concern into meaningful artistic expressions by participating in an art competition. We believe that art serves not only as a medium for personal expression but also as a powerful tool for social commentary and change. By participating in this competition, our students have the opportunity to address real-world issues and advocate for improvements in ship safety through their artwork.

We are incredibly proud to announce that our efforts have borne fruit. On behalf of NAMEPA, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Inter-American Committee on Ports of the Organization of the American States, we are thrilled to share that Artroom101’s students, Andrea Kim (2nd Grade) with her entry “Protect our Ship with AI System”, and Louis Lee (1st Grade) with his entry “Safety Guards” have been selected as Finalists in the Navigating the Future of Safety and Sustainability Art Contest!

Their impressive artworks not only demonstrate their artistic talents but also reflect their deep understanding and concern for maritime safety. Andrea Kim’s piece, “Protect our Ship with AI System,” envisions a future where advanced technology safeguards our vessels, while Louis Lee’s “Safety Guards” highlights the crucial role of vigilant protection in ensuring safe navigation. These young artists have not only excelled in their craft but also made significant contributions to a vital conversation about safety and sustainability in the maritime industry.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to these talented young artists! Their achievements are a testament to the power of art in raising awareness and inspiring change. We are excited to see their continued growth and the impact they will undoubtedly make in the future.
